Biography of Maulin Agbaje-Anozie

Daughter of the late Chief Salami Agbaje, the then Balogun of Ibadan in the former Western region of Nigeria, Chief Mrs. Moulin A. Agbaje-Anozie had her primary education at Cathedral School, Faji Lagos and Islamic Primary School, Ibadan. She attended North London Polytechnic where she obtained a Diploma in Nursery Education after completing her secondary school at Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School, Ogun State. She also attended St. Nicolas Montessori Teacher Training College, London. She was the first Nigerian to study Montessori Education in England.

  • With a desire to contribute to the socio-economic development of our nation, she started Children’s House School (CHS), which was the first nursery primary school in Ogun State in 1959. She later went to establish other schools which include; The Ideal Nursery and Primary School at Arigbajo, ifo; Mother’s Joy, Ring Road, Ibadan; and Rockcrest Girls’ College, Abeokuta in 1997. The girls’ college is the first private girls’ college in Ogun State. Another offshoot of CHS is the Lagos Banana Island School, Ikoyi, Lagos State run by one of her children and Piaget College of Education, Abeokuta.

  • A great philanthropist, Chief (Mrs.) M. A. Agbaje-Anozie has established and funded numerous micro-finance projects to help and increase business opportunities for the low income within her community. She is the founder of a Micro Finance project for widows, the Thrift finance project for the community, and a benefactor to many.
  • Mrs. Agbaje-Anozie has also provided scholarships to countless students who were financially needy many of whom have become leaders in their fields. She was the president of club 77 Abeokuta, a patron of the Oluyole Club of Abeokuta, patron of the Sports club, Abeokuta, and the Quarry/Surulere community, Abeokuta. As founder of Seliat-Agbaje Central Mosque, Mrs. Agbaje-Anozie is the mother of the Chiefs at the mosque. She is also the mother of the Chiefs of the Agbaje Central Mosque of Ibadan, Oyo State. She is the Proprietor of MAAN petrol station, Abeokuta, and the recipient of numerous dignitary awards. To mention a few, she was awarded the Plaque of Honour from WISE society in the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
  • She was the first president of the National Association for Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Ogun State, a post she held for several years. She is the recipient of the Award of Excellence from the Egba Indigenes of Abeokuta. An Award of Excellence from the Nawarudeen Society of Abeokuta and the Ansarudeen Society of Lagos State and the Abadiya Society of Ogun State. She was also awarded a Plaque of Honour from the Senior Citizens Society of Abeokuta, Ogun State. Chief Mrs. Agbaje-Anozie continues to be highly active in the educational and economic development of her community.
